Episode 95 – Dire Straits Hate – 12/8/2011

On this week’s episode, Will admitted owning a fake tree, Gary fondles a Lumia, and Norm talks hair care. All that, plus the latest on Android lag, the real problems with iOS, Firefox’s problems, Kindle Fire usability issues, and another edition of fake outtakes. Enjoy!

  1. I completely agree with Gary about calling bullshit on “e-sports.” The term is a fucking euphemism for competitive gaming, but no one in that community wants to face reality.

  2. the best fast food place is Burgerville, they have to best fries and hamburgers out any fast food place. the only downside is that it is really expensive to eat there. It’s most likely because they use the best quality of ingredients.

  3. Mayo on fries, or fancy sauce is awesome.

EDIT: You fuckers made me hungry with all the food talk, so I got some butter chicken with naan.

  4. BAH! As far as i can ascertain from the interwebs, the Galaxy Nexus has not yet launched on Verizon. though Will and Norms claims and pricing caused me to scour the web frantically for hours.

  5. I’m going to make a Gary Whitta Max MSP patch that just randomly triggers “WHAT!?” and “FUCK OFF!” samples so you guys can use it when Gary can’t be in for the podcast.

  6. what’s with all the firefox hate? It does memory much better than chrome when you have many tabs.

And as far as I know, it’s still the only browser that can block youtube ads properly.

  7. Imagine fitting all of what happens in Skyrim at any given moment, including areas you do not see but are still loaded in memory, into 135MB of available memory, this includes all textures, all geometry, all physics, all AI, all effects and skybox, all NPCs… That is the budget Bethesda has to deal while making an open world, multiplatform first person RPG where the assets have to be higher res than your typical third person game. It’s basically an impossible budget.

We have the same budget restrictions making FarCry3, its not fun, and I won’t blame Bethesda for anything. I will blame Sony for gobbing up half the video memory available just for their stupid XMB, and generally having built a console that only caters to first party developers and leaves everyone else fighting for megabyte scraps.

As a developer, there are so many times I see multiplatform games and what they could have been, how much more advanced and leading edge they could have been, if it wasnt for the bottleneck piece of shit called the PS3.
