How MegaBots Will Let You Build Your Own Giant Fighting Robot!

MegaBots’ creators want you to be able to one day build your own giant fighting robot. But how is that possible? Simone and Norm visit the MegaBots headquarters to learn how their latest prototype–now equipped with giant steel knives–is the next step to proving that the dream of making your own giant robot is real.

  1. What was that? Nice chat before and after combined 1.8 seconds of robot action. Feels like the actual use of the robot and the the destruction of objects is part of another video? Or did someone accidentally lost the interesting part in editing?

  2. Have to agree with cxc21. In a 12-something minute video you could have squeezed in more than a seconds worth of crushing action. What gives?

    Kinda disappointed…

  3. So, who the heck has the money to do all this? What multi-millionaire is having fun just funding and pouring money into this?

  4. Actual crushing action on Simone’ and Megabots’ respective youtube channels.

Maybe add a note in the description here, guys?

  5. i was gonna joke about rich people in the US, but there’s too much of that special kind of cynicism in the idea of the 1% getting a substantial tax cut from people being kicked off healthcare, and spending it on fighting robots.

  6.   I had the exact same question watching the video. I agree that it takes a pretty strong money pump to get such a project off the ground. But it seems that the business model being developped here is close to what you would see in car racing: entrepreneurs developing a “series” (NASCAR, F1…) and the trying to attract teams and a public. Pretty ambitious…

  7. (sorry guys, only got error messages when i sent that earlier comment, and refreshing didn’t show it on the site. didn’t mean to spam like that.)

  8. I am no engineer, but these giant robots must require enormous amounts of energy to move and slash around? And the cost of all the parts… Dont get me wrong, I like giant fighting robots, but the feat of building and constantly repairing 8 of these.

    I have to 2nd that

  10. kickstarter initially. they raised over $550k over a year ago. i’m sure they’ve found some other way of funding as well though i’ve not seen any sign of that yet.

to be sure if we’re gonna see a number of these things fight there is gonna have to be heavy sponsorship involved. way more so than battlebots have to go through. i donno who’s gonna pick up that task but i hope they find some way to make this reasonably accessible to teams of builders.

  12. I think they mentioned it’s powered by a 400hp, that’s around 300kW. it’s quite a lot for an excavator but for example large dozers have twice that. Parts for this stuff is really expensive, like you have no idea how expensive. if it’s like battlebots where fights usualy end with a K.O, that can easily get to million dollars per K.O.
