Adam Savage’s One Day Builds: Rhombic Dodecahedron with Matt Parker!
In this special One Day Build filmed earlier this year, mathematician Matt Parker (StandUpMaths) visits the cave to build a rhombic dodecahedron with Adam! Be prepared for lots of fun geometry discussion as Adam and Matt try to make abstract math concepts tangible with a physical build. They also take this construction a few steps further by lining the inside of the polyhedron with mirrors and LED strips for an infinty mirrored effect!

Like others have said, if you used neo pixels or some other species of addressable LED this would be amazing in a Timothy Leary sort of way …..
One thing that got me about this build is how ridiculously low-entry this is to make. I mean, no painting… no gluing, no specialty hardware or tools. Some plastic, some metalized film. some tape. some more tape. and a strands of LED’s.

corruptintroduce this stuff to.On second thought… why wasn’t this glued up? gluing this up wouldn’t be *that* hard.
Adam said it was mylar. My guess is you could use any roll of metalized polyester film.

as for the LED’s… I imagine you could use any form of led strand/strips. Adafruit’s neopixels are – and addressable. whatever you get, I would suggest that thinner is better. I’m thinking I’ll use the ultraskinny strip: https://www.adafruit.com/product/4368

Crack, You’re right. this would be insane. I’m currently thinking of using this as the ‘avatar’ for my smart home. I use mycroft.ai and have a number of base devices. I’m thinking this would make a great pendant light that doubles as a status indicator… maybe I’m geeking out too much.
What a great project. My Daughter and I made one! Now we just need to make the RGB controller.
