PREMIUM – Ask Adam Anything: Drawing for Leisure

We’re bringing back Ask Adam Anything segments! Every week, Adam will take a question from the comments section below or on social media (tagged #AskAdamSavage) and answer them for the Tested member community. This week’s question is about Adam’s personal drawings for fun and leisure.

  1. looks like there is a fourth one directly behind his right.

But I can’t judge. I have like 7 multi tools and countless pocket knives.

  2. I’ve been fascinated with the incorporation of Simone on the Tested team from the get go. Her different perspectives (as a woman, as a Swede, a non sci-fi fan, etc) have brought immeasurable returns to the team as a whole, but I think what I wonder most is your guidance to her with regards to her newfound (and one might say abrupt) celebrity status.

Not to say that Norm and others on the Tested team haven’t had similar changes with regard to their celebrity, but hers seems bigger and faster. She has stated the input that she receives from her mother, but I wonder what advice she’s asked of you and/or you’ve suggested to her?

Thanks in advance for any feedback you could give.

  3. This is a good idea and I will enjoy the questions, however will Premium members’ questions take priority? For example if I pose a question here will some person from twitter be chosen just because Adam Saw the question first with a hashtag? I feel that, especially for those of us without social media, and because this is a tested premium exclusive the questions should come from tested premium members. Also, is it possible to answer more that one question the length of the videos in general has been shortening on the website. This may be the last year my household holds any tested memberships.

  4. You’re right, why ask questions from Twitter if you don’t even know wether they’re premium member or not? A bit odd.

  5. Yeah, to play devils advocate, maybe it is an effort to make things more convenient from a question input standpoint for us. Or, it could be a business decision with twitter for clicks (IDK) or an attempt to obtain outsiders to become premium members. Who knows? I only hope they allow premium comment questions to take priority, not that I have a question to ask yet, simply on principle.

  6. Dear Adam,

at conventions and similar venues, you are almost inevitably asked, “What was your favourite myth?” and you’re really good at rolling with it, not letting the repetition get to you and giving that fan what they want out of the interaction.

I’d like to know a similar but more granular thing: Which falsehood was the most satisfying to bust? Which result made your inner stereotypical know-it-all nerd jump up and down in glee at the anticipation of being able to push up his glasses and go “Well, actually…” at people?

Conversely, which confirmed truth was most life-changing for you? Finding out that elephants really do shy away from mice may have been highly surprising, but it’s not very applicable to most ordinary lives, and thus unlikely to cause much rethinking. Which “Confirmed” result had the greatest impact on your thinking, your behaviour or both?

  7. I’m sure those are the exact reasons. The two things that bother me :

    1. People asking questions on Twitter might not know they’re only being answered for premium members.

    2. (People might call me an entitled asshole) but it’s my opinion that those questions should only come from premium members. They’re the ones keeping Tested going so they should have priority (as you said).

Either post the video directly to Youtube and let everyone ask something (and also watch it), or keep it premium only. The situation now is rather odd.

  8. i dunno, i’d prefer if questions were selected by whether they are interesting, not by whether a member of a certain group asked them. what we, as premium members, get, is access to the premium videos. some of those are adam answering questions. i’d like these to be good questions, please and thank you. 🙂

regarding draughtmanship and doubts: i defer to iain mccaig, legendary concept artist and really really good draughtsman/visual storyteller. visuals are our first language. and if you use them to get a point across, your draughtmanship succeeded. that can be the most haphazard sketch of a locomotive to make someone in a foreign country understand you’re looking for the way to the train station, it can be an exact, to-scale plan to work out the details of a build, or it can be any kind of artistic expression.

it’s not always about getting to a certain level of polish or appearance of professionalism.

  9. To spread what the premium membership content is. 🙂

If you are not a premium member but you make the effort to ask something to Adam on Twitter, probably you will be a lot interested in premium content.

  10. I’d like to ask Adam whatever happened to the space suit reproduction from the Martian spacesuit? It got off to such a good start, with the meticulous patterning from the original suit you guys had at your disposal. Were videos posted that I missed? I was looking forward to a very detailed build.

  11. I would like to ask Adam, if he is afraid that his brain will deteriorate, because he seldom uses gloves or any mouth protection ?

  12. Hey Adam, you’ve said in the past you enjoy cooking, so I was wondering what your go to dishes are for the following situations:

    • Quick & Easy Weeknight Dinner
    • Family Weekend Comfort Food
    • Cooking to Impress

Also since your son started working in a kitchen, has he cooked anything special for you?

  13. what keeps Adam from giving up on a project? or at least completing all the complicated projects that he has completed? Please tell us, Motivation is contagious.

  14. I have nothing against the number of knives one owns (I know I have over a dozen). But four Leathermans on a table with nothing else on it peaked my curiosity. But based on @krystynlo

  15. Because he seems to rarely do anything in his shop without a reason. And I was curious what the reason was. But it appears my question will be answered in a week or two when he answers a different question.

  16. We’ll be taking questions from both premium members and social. We didn’t want to close off questions just because people weren’t premium members yet; we’re still trying to get the word out that it exists. We thank you for your support, and if you have a question yourself, please post it here for the next round of Q&A.

  17. You’ll see in my above answer that we didn’t want to close off questions just because people weren’t premium members yet; we’re still trying to get the word out that it exists. But we’re also taking questions from premium members, of course, so please post yours here if you have one yourself? And we thank you so much for your support.

  18. you receive a ton of props from prop store of london where do all of these end up living or do they end up going back.

  19. I’m a new filmmaker, and was wondering if it would be possible to receive detailed drawings of the helmet locking ring, neck ring, and wrist rings? I’m designing some space suits, and need to make them. I’ll be using rigid pvc piping so I can cut, and dremel them to shape.

  20. Thank you for teasing the dinosaur stuff! It’s a lot easier to bear, getting an idea of what kind of projects Adam is working on, rather than to keep it all under wraps until the big reveal. Here’s to more transparency! Please keep it up!
