  1. What is a tool that can mimic a big ol’ shop disc sander?

Making things in a tiny apartment has it’s challenges. Hand tools are great, but sometimes I need to take a lot of (1/4-1/8 in) material off and have it be flush or rounding a jagged coping saw cut. I find hand sanders can’t really get it done like a shop sander

P.S. I talk about your shop frequently with friends and express joy that you shop is very approachable and reasonable. The only machines and tools you have that aren’t necessary are for time saving or just a plethora of variety. Lots of YoutTube shops have lots of customized gadgets that serve only 1 purpose for an industrial settings and makers can’t learn from those or understand the process it performs to adapt to what they have.

  2. LOL!! I love it! I have a long-favorite 48oz dead blow hammer that I have always referred to by that very same name!

    And yes! It DOES!

  3. Pick up some 3M 77 adhesive spray and use a very flat piece of wood or glass, adhere a grit of sandpaper that you need to that surface with a sparing amount of spray glue, and move the part over the sandpaper. Works in a pinch!

  4. You’re so right about the precision-thwacking, Adam!

I hadn’t thought about it in a while but among my favorite tools back when I was a cabinet maker was a selection of “candy hammers” – you know, the ones made from some honey-colored, transparent resin, sometimes with a metal weight inside – which I used all the time for tapping routing- and milling- and drilling- and cutting guides and setups, glue-downs etc. into place.

  5. Adam, you clearly enjoy to build and show us props and shop equipment. Do you build things for your house? A rack to organize your pots and pans? A coffee table?

  6. For me it’s my speed square. 90 degree angles are used everywhere all the time, especially in woodworking, and this is the easiest way to do it.
