Model Behavior: Assembling Bill’s Replicant Blaster!

Bill brings to our office the culmination of a big project: a scratch-modeled interpretation of the Blade Runner blaster prop that he’s turned into a kit. We assemble this Replicant Blaster kit to show how it all comes together with real hardware (no glue!) and mechanical action (those darn springs!) Follow along to celebrate Bill’s incredible prop-building achievement!

  1. This is so mindbogglingly complex. The idea of 3d designing the mechanical operation of a firearm, sans the forces necessary to make a firearm work, with soft materials, and harbor freight springs. It’s genuinely awe inspiring. There are some many places where a couple thousandths of an inch would result in mechanical failure, and he molded the piece and casted in a way that allowed it to still function. Excellent work Bill!

  2. Just purchased the files from Bill’s site. I’m looking forward to adding a Lefty and Righty pair of these to go along with my original Blasters (L&R) 🙂
I may not cast them, as I think some molds will be too big for my pressure pot. I’ll have to look into it.
I’ll be happy to post photos when I’ve completed them.

  3. I appreciate the sexy smooth jazz during the weathering, Gunther! =)

Thanks for the kind words, friends! I’m not doing resin kits, but I am selling the 3D files on my website if you’d like to print your own. punishedprops.com

    Thanks again! =D

  4. So Bill, would you at all recommend attempting this with a backyard aluminum melting pot for all of the metal bits? Or am I dreaming too wildly?

Note: I have never melted aluminum. I always assume I can do wonders with anything before I ever start. You should see the scars that result from such hubris…

  5. So two weeks ago I purchased the files from Punished-Props.

Here’s my work so far. I still need to mold and cast the grips in translucent orange. Unless someone would be interested in making a set available 😉

And finish off a few little details.
