Bits to Atoms: Mechanical Pong Machine!

Jeremy and Sean pay tribute to the venerable stepper motor in this project for the Tested live show! Their idea: building a mechanical version of Pong that can be played by a large audience. And the twist: the game is controlled by crowd noise.

  1. nothing to do with this video but something you guys might like at tested is the

its by the same company that created the millennium falcon that norm and will started way back when

not sure if it ever got finished tho but the r2d2 is something you guys might like but maybe not the price tag lol

  2. This series just keeps delivering the goods 🙂 BTW, I love how you can hear Adam laughing all through the live-show demo :p

  3. nothing to do with this video but something you guys might like at tested is the

deagostini r2d2 its a fully functioning robot model but not sure you will like the price tag on it lol

its from the same company as the millennium falcon model will and norm started way back when

  4. I’m picturing two people playing this with dueling amplifiers/speakers generating a continuous tone and using the volume knob as the controller, a la the paddle on the old Coleco controllers. Could probably even use the balance knob, adjusting between right and left channels.

  5. Awesome build, thank you so much for sharing, brings back early pong memories.

And so much better than all the VR stuff 😉

  6. You know, for someone who is the resident 3d printing expert who hasn’t heard of micro stepping or the internal workings of them makes me wander 😛

Looking forward to seeing the final result. 10 minutes in!

  7. And this is the reason I will keep being a paid up premium member. Each project Sean and Jeremy tackle just gets better and better. I would have loved to have been at the live show to see this for real. One thing that you could maybe update on in the show notes is how much the total build actually cost. Was it tens or hundreds? Really looking forward to some more mad ideas in 2018. Keep em coming.

  8. A couple’a crazy geniuses just foolin’ around. Gotta love the attention to right sound effects. Great fun watching the fellowship during this build.

I think the micing needs a little work– maybe a couple of tight shotguns.
