Tested Builds: ErgoDox Mechanical Keyboards, Part 5

It’s the end of the first week in this batch of builds, and Will and Norm are rushing to get those last pieces into their ErgoDox keyboards! We’re hoping to make it to a typing test, but troubleshooting broken keys means we’ll have to do some backtracking as well. It’s been a really fun kit so far, so follow along with us for the rest of this build by signing up for a Tested Premium Membership here!

Tested Builds: ErgoDox Mechanical Keyboards, Part 4

An extra long episode today as Will and Norm decide that they want to build two complete keyboards instead of collaborating on one. With twice the effort, we double our chances for a successful build! Plus, we get better at soldering those tiny diodes the second go around. Rick Baker’s Men in Black Puppets and Animatronics

Some of effects legend Rick Baker’s most memorable work was in the Men in Black series, where his studio designed and created the fantastic alien creatures featured in the films. We chat with Rick about the practical fabrication of the memorable worm aliens, and a giant bug animatronic that never made it to screen–all going on auction. So many wonderful stories! (For a chance to win a prop from this collection, just post in the comments what from the auction you’d love to have!)

Tested Builds: ErgoDox Mechanical Keyboards, Part 3

The diligent soldering continues, and at this rate, one of the team is bound to burn themselves on a soldering iron, right? You’ll have to watch to find out, but we promise some satisfying peeling of the protective plastic covers off of our laser-cut acrylic sheets. And it’s almost time to put those key-switches in! Tested Builds: ErgoDox Mechanical Keyboards, Part 2

Will and Norm continue with their ErgoDox mechanical keyboard assemblies, and build momentum with the soldering! The question now is how many keys will work on the first try. If you haven’t watched yesterday’s introductory episode, you can find that here. And follow along with us for the rest of this build by signing up for a Tested Premium Membership here!

Show and Tell: Favorite Helping Hands Set

For this week’s Show and Tell, Will shares with us his new favorite set of helping hands for the workshop. We’ve all see those small third-hand tools sold at electronics and craft stores, but the best set is the one we’ve used at Adam’s shop. This precision tool is made for jewelers, and are great for big soldering projects too. (Thanks to B&H for providing the One Man Crew system for this video. Find out more about it here!)
